Frederick Jensen and Mildred Carlson
Jensen
Because of
economic conditions and the fact that most of the older children lived in the
Weston area and also that grandmother still lived on the farm with the boys
Fred, Ben, Alfred, and LaVon and because Fred was the oldest it became his lot
to shoulder most of the responsibility in providing the finances and credit
needed to operate the farm.
It seems
that the family to some extent used grandmother's home as a common meeting
place. It has always seemed that anyone's problems or disasters would receive whatever
help that was needed from grandmother and the boys. Because grandmother had no
favorite children, many times aid or help was promised that grandmother and the
boys could not afford. If anyone needed to borrow a horse, a plow, a sack of
seed, or a load of hay, Uncle Fred could always be counted on to offer whatever
was needed. Uncle Fred seems to have the ability to find a solution to other
members of the family's problems. No member of the family can truthfully say
that Uncle Fred did not give them anything that they ask for if he had it.
When uncle
Hans was sick, Fred came up to visit him. On the backseat of Fred's car were
some savings bonds and one person remarked to me to look at those bonds lying
on the seat, what's he trying to do, brag that he has a few bonds. But a short
time later talking to Uncle Fred he said that he did not know of Han’s
financial condition but he had a few bonds with him to give to Uncle Hans if he
needed them.
Uncle Fred
was nicknamed sod. It seemed that Uncle Fred had charged a bill at the local
soda and confectionery store. They sent him a bill for $28, and when
grandmother saw the bill she said why Freddie, did you drink that much soda
water? Uncle Fred never did admit it but I think most of that $28 was spent on:
Clotiel Lundquist.
Uncle Fred
did not have much use for girls until he met and Mildred. Mildred Carlson
married Mr. Farr. They had three children.
During the
depression of 1930, Mildred left her husband and came back to Weston with her
family to live in her father, Wilford Carlson's home. This was next to where
grandmother and the boys lived after they moved to Weston. Whether Fred went
over to help with the children or to court Mildred I do not know. They were
married 23 September 1937 in Elko Nevada.
Aunt Mildred
was qualified to teach school. She spent many years teaching until she retired.
Fred and Mildred moved to Tooele Utah where they purchased a farm and Uncle
Fred worked at the smelter. Uncle Fred and Aunt Mildred did not have any
children. Aunt Mildred and Mr. Farr had the following children:
Bernard Carlson Farr born 29 April
1921
married Lola Moss
Elaine Farr born 19 March 1923
married Vernon Hansen
Ellen Lavonne Farr born 29 January
1925
married Mureil Eugene
Jackson
Larue Annette Farr born 8 March 1927
married Clifford Carson
