John Jensen and Dora Lucy Clemens

John was the third child of John Henry Jensen and Ane Christine Jensen. He was born 14 August 1883. He had two older sisters, Rocelia Walberg and Anna. All three of these children were born in the town of Weston Idaho Across the street, west from the site of the grade school in Weston. His sister Emma was the first child born on the farm north of Weston that John Henry homesteaded and lived on until he died his 10 younger brothers and sisters were all born on this farm

When John was a boy the Indians roamed the Valley. He herded the family milk cows down by the construction gang building the railroad tracks through Weston. John helped chop the wood and clear the land of sagebrush. There lights were candles made from mutton tallow. He helped dig ditches and what little they had they thought were riches. John and children had shoes for the winner, but in the summer they went barefooted. John was an average pioneer boy.

John and Dora were married 17 April 1905 in Logan Utah. This marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple, Logan Utah 12 may 1920.

John and Dora lived in the home now owned by Grant Bingham 2 miles north of Weston Depot. They lived in the home 1/4 mile west of John Henry ranch home. They live in one room log home one block west of Weston grade school in the home owned by Clark Campbell. It was in this home that I Virgil Jensen first remembers my father and mother and that I had a sister, Retha who at one time was very ill. John later purchased a home one block north of the store in Weston. John worked for Fred Fredrickson on the threshing machine. Doris spent many falls during the threshing period cooking for the thresher men. John, Hans and Albert later purchased the thresher from Fred and every fall they spent about 60 days threshing grain in the Clarkston Utah area.

John later worked as caretaker of the Weston Cemetery until about a year before his death. He was working at Ogden Utah on 2nd Street at a government defense plant. In 1942 Dora and John went to Ogden to work. They enjoyed the new life they had very much in Ogden. In July 1943 John suddenly became ill and died of a coronary thrombosis. He was buried in the Weston Cemetery. Dora died in February of 1969 and was buried beside her husband.
