Lawrence Soren Jensen and Nora
Marietta Walker
Lawrence was
the sixth child of John Henry Jensen and Ane Christine Jensen. He was born 25
April 1889. Lawrence left home at an early age to seek employment. He went to
Riverdale Idaho where he worked on a large cattle ranch for Ben Meek Sr.
Lawrence was well-liked by his employer. He could have been foreman at a young
age while working at Riverdale.
Lawrence met
Nora Walker. They were married in Driggs Idaho and later moved to Twin Falls Idaho
(Jerome) where they were engaged in farming.
My first
memory of Uncle Lawrence and Aunt Nora was in 1928 when Alf, John and families
went to Twin Falls. We left Weston just as the sun was coming up in our model T
Ford. We traveled all day stopping at the American Falls dam for lunch. We
arrived at Lawrence’s place in Twin Falls just as the sun went down. The next
day we traveled to King Hill to visit Aunt Celia and Uncle Frank Hall.
Aunt Nora
had a great sense of humor. She seemed to delight in some prank or humor that
she could do to someone. I have been told that Nora was a great horse rider.
When she was young she could out ride any man. You were always welcome at that
Nora and Uncle Lawrence's house. Their door was never locked and the best they
had was always given to the many friends who came to visit.
Aunt Nora
died 2 May 1962 and was buried 5 May 1962 in Sunset Memorial Park, Twin Falls
Idaho.
Uncle
Lawrence was a great reader of the Scriptures and especially history of his
ancestors or of the early settlement of Cache Valley and Twin Falls Idaho.
Uncle Lawrence was a large man weighing 252 to 275 pounds. He has enjoyed good
health and has enjoyed having his many friends come to his home and visit him.
Lawrence died 28 November 1972 and was buried 1 December 1972 in Sunset Memorial
Park, Twin Falls Idaho.
When Lawrence
and Nora moved to Twin Falls they were very close to pioneering that country.
Lawrence seems to have a fascination for irrigation. He has spent much of his
time working for irrigation companies, building canals, pumping stations, and
as a water master.
In 1928
while visiting it Twin Falls, the Jerome – Twin Falls cemented bridge was
dedicated and we witnessed a man jumping from the bridge with a parachute.
Lawrence and Nora lived approximately 1 mile north of the Hansen swinging
bridge across the Snake River. I believe that he helped build the bridge and
also see it become obsolete and a new cemented bridge built.
Lawrence and
Nora had five children;
Glenn Jensen born 13 September 1913
married Gladys Morton
Alice Lucille Jensen born 15 June
1915
married Earl Martin
second marriage Wilford
bullock
Joffre Edward Jenson born 4 May 1917
married Alta Boyd
Donald Hiram Jensen
married Esther Morton,
later divorced
second marriage Fern
Cooper, who was first married to Ralph Herman Core.
Lenora Christine Jensen born 15
December 1926
married Aubrey Cummins
If a summary
of Lawrence and Nora's life or ask for, it could be;
Let me live
in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man.
