Hyrum Smith Jensen and Lena Bergstrom
This history was compiled and written by John Virgil and Ellie Jensen.

Hyrum Smith Jensen was the only child listed on the ships passenger record with his parents Carl Jensen and Louise Frederiche Dreger when they immigrated to America. He was the youngest child of his family, approximately 13 years old when he came to America.

Hyrum Smith Jensen married Lena Bergstrom in 1880. They had one son, Hyrum Smith Junior born 13 October 1881.

Hyrum Senior spent much of his time freighting merchandise from the end of the railroad in Corrine, Utah to Montana. He spent much time driving a hackney coach (hack). A hackney coach is a carriage kept for hire, a four wheeled carriage drawn by two horses and seats for six people. He drove the hack through Yellowstone National Park hauling visitors.

Not much was known about Hyrum Smith Senior until 1920 when word was received from Hyrum that he was ill. Fred Jensen a nephew, son of John Henry went to Montana and brought his uncle Hyrum Smith Senior to live in Weston Idaho. He remained there until 1930 when he died and was buried next to his father and mothers lot to the east of his brother, Jens Frederick in the Weston Cemetery in Weston Idaho.

When Uncle Fred Jensen went to Montana to bring his uncle Hyrum to Weston to live it was after grandmother's home had burned down. Hyrum moved into a cellar that stood behind grandmother's home. This cellar had cement walls and was heated with a small stove. Hyrum liked to live in this cellar because it was easy to keep warm. Later Hyrum was moved to Weston where he lived in a small one-room building.

Because Hyrum Smith Jensen spent so much time away from home Lena divorced him and with their son Hyrum Smith Junior went to Salt Lake City for employment. She later married and was sealed in the Temple in Salt Lake to Heber John Romney 17 March 1899

There is no picture of Hyrum senior that I could find, but as I remember him he resembled Albert Jensen and nephew very much. He was about the same size and build as Albert.
