Frank Hall and Rocelia Walberg Jensen

Rocelia Walberg Jensen was born 8 September 1880. She was the first child of John Henry Jensen and Ane Christine Jensen Kelson Jensen. My first recollection of Aunt Celia was when she lived in a house that stood up in the field from grandfather’s house in Weston, Idaho. It seemed that at that time there was a great excitement because the world was coming to an end. About the same time that Hailey’s comet appears in the western sky.

Aunt Celia left home at an early age to go to Montana to work for a family doing housework. While there she met and married Jack O'Brien in 1902. They had the following three children;

            Bessie O’Brian born 1903, died 1940 near San Francisco

                        Married Walter Long

                                    children Roberta, Zelda, and Dean

                        married and divorced Austin Hansen

children Robert and Bill (lived on a ranch near old fellow Washington in 1968)

John Curtis O'Brien born 1905, worked in Portland Oregon in the shipyards. He was injured in a fall and lay in a coma for nearly 4 years before his death.

                        married Goldie Harpster 1927

                                    son Gene

                        married and divorced Hilda Nelson

                                    children Jean, Mike, Patricia, Aaron

            Vera O'Brien born April 30, 1908

                        married Armel Rose

                                    children Betty Lou, Armel Jr, Evelyn (Baby)

Aunt Celia was of a quiet disposition and slow to anger. Life to Aunt Celia was not always a bed of roses. Although I have never met Jack O'Brien I always felt that he took advantage of Aunt Celia in not providing for her and the family. She must have left him when life became intolerable, to bring her family back to Weston to live.

Aunt Cecilia met Frank Hall in 1930 at King Hill Idaho probably at Aunt Emma Crockett's. They were married in Pocatello Idaho 17 March 1914 they moved to King Hill Idaho where they lived until Frank died 7 December 1937. He was buried in Glenns ferry Idaho cemetery.

Frank Hall was born near Syracuse New York 24 December 1891 where he lived and went to school until he was approximately 17 years old when he left home and started West. He lived with an uncle in Kansas working on a ranch. From there he wandered from state to state working at coal mining, logging and railroad construction. Frank's mother came to visit him in 1928. That was the first time he saw her in 30 years.

Aunt Celia died 23 April 1967 in Butte Montana and was buried in Glenns Ferry Cemetery 27 April 1967. The following five children were born to Aunt Cecilia and Uncle Frank;

            Rodney S Frank Hall born 17 December 1914 King Hill Idaho

                         married Loretta Hopson 1940

Nels Peter Jensen and Anna Jensen Jensen

Anna was the second child of John Henry Jensen and Ane Christine Jensen, born 5 January 1882. Anna married Nels Peter Jensen in 1902.

208J2 was the number that we had to give the central operator on the telephone when we wanted to talk to Aunt Anna or Uncle Pete. They were one of the first and very few that had a telephone. It seemed that we spent a lot of time at Aunt Anna and Uncle Pete's home. Maybe it was because we always stopped there on the way to and from Fred Fredrickson's place, where father worked helping run the threshing machine.

My early impressions of Pete and Anna were how hard they worked. It seemed that breakfast was always served before sun up. Uncle Pete was a good Farmer and mechanic. He had his own blacksmith shop where he repaired his own machinery. And Anna was always pleasant to be around unless she had one of her violent headaches that generally put her in bed. At one time Myrtle and I were writing on the steamy kitchen windows. And Anna made us write to 100. We had breathe our breath on the window to make it steamy enough to write each number.

I remember one time the family came down to our place and Odell was very proud that the day before he had driven the horses that pulled the plow. Plowing on Uncle Pete's farm was one of the biggest jobs on the farm as most of the ground was summer fallow. Four days during the summer the hired man or owner of the farm would hook four or five horses on a two bottom plow and work all day to plow two acres of ground. In the early fall the ground would be harrowed and drilled into grain that would be harvested the next year. Uncle Pete had his own threshing machine to thresh his own grain and also his neighbors

Uncle Pete sold his farm and loaded his machinery and cattle on seven railroad cars and moved to Rexburg Idaho to farm. He had the cash for his farming in one of his extra high top shoes and a very big revolver or pistol in the other shoe.

Uncle Pete stayed at our home the night before he left Weston. While Uncle Pete was loading his machinery on the railroad car at Weston the operator of the Weston elevator was accidentally killed while in the elevator. Later that day Uncle Pete sent me over to the elevator to borrow a handsaw because all of his were packed. I have always remembered going over to the elevator to get the saw.

After uncle Pete moved to Rexburg Idaho he became owner and operator of his own garage business until the garage was destroyed by fire which was a financial loss to him

Uncle Pete and Aunt Anna had the following children;

            Mina Jensen born 23 February 1905, died 8 March 1957

                        married Ted Williams

            Myrtle Jensen born 20 August 1906

                        married William O Hall

            Odell Jensen born 6 September 1908, died 15 September 1954

            Andrew Jensen born 19 June 1916

                        married Eddis Round

            Larie Jensen born 19 July 1919

                        married Wendell Walhquist

            Renee Jensen born 26 August 1921

                        married Ray Walhquist

            twins Anna Jensen born 19 November 1923, died three hours later

                      Emma Fern Jensen born 19 November 1923, died six weeks later

                        (first twins worn in the Idaho Falls Idaho hospital)

John Jensen and Dora Lucy Clemens

                          John was the third child of John Henry Jensen and Ane Christine Jensen. He was born 14 August 1883. He had two older sisters, Rocelia Walberg and Anna. All three of these children were born in the town of Weston Idaho Across the street, west from the site of the grade school in Weston. His sister Emma was the first child born on the farm north of Weston that John Henry homesteaded and lived on until he died his 10 younger brothers and sisters were all born on this farm

When John was a boy the Indians roamed the Valley. He herded the family milk cows down by the construction gang building the railroad tracks through Weston. John helped chop the wood and clear the land of sagebrush. There lights were candles made from mutton tallow. He helped dig ditches and what little they had they thought were riches. John and children had shoes for the winner, but in the summer they went barefooted. John was an average pioneer boy.

John and Dora were married 17 April 1905 in Logan Utah. This marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple, Logan Utah 12 may 1920.

John and Dora lived in the home now owned by Grant Bingham 2 miles north of Weston Depot. They lived in the home 1/4 mile west of John Henry ranch home. They live in one room log home one block west of Weston grade school in the home owned by Clark Campbell. It was in this home that I Virgil Jensen first remembers my father and mother and that I had a sister, Retha who at one time was very ill. John later purchased a home one block north of the store in Weston. John worked for Fred Fredrickson on the threshing machine. Doris spent many falls during the threshing period cooking for the thresher men. John, Hans and Albert later purchased the thresher from Fred and every fall they spent about 60 days threshing grain in the Clarkston Utah area.

John later worked as caretaker of the Weston Cemetery until about a year before his death. He was working at Ogden Utah on 2nd Street at a government defense plant. In 1942 Dora and John went to Ogden to work. They enjoyed the new life they had very much in Ogden. In July 1943 John suddenly became ill and died of a coronary thrombosis. He was buried in the Weston Cemetery. Dora died in February of 1969 and was buried beside her husband.

John and Dora had the following children;

            John Virgil Jensen born 18 March 1906

            Elner Jensen born 19 November 1921

                        married Robert Woodrow Goodwin 3 January 1940

Alvin David Crockett and Emma Christine Jensen

Emma Christina Jensen was the fourth child of John Henry Jensen and Ane Christine Jensen. Emma was born 4 July 1885. Emma married Alvin David Crockett in 1904. Uncle Alvin worked on the railroad as a signal maintainer. He used to travel up and down the tracks on his three wheeled motor car. As they lived by the railroad tracks it was Henry Marlow’s job to gather up all the younger children when the train came by.

Alvin and Emma purchased a farm west of King Hill Idaho. While Alvin worked on the railroad, Emma and the children operated the farm. This was a hard life for the Crockett. The farm was not productive and with hauling water, herding cows, killing snakes, the desert heat and with the making of many sandwiches that went to the hobo that came to the door for food as the Crockett never said no to anyone that came to their door, even if it took the food from their shelves

Alvin and Emma later moved to Glenns Ferry Idaho where Alvin and the boys worked at the railroad roundhouse where the railroad equipment was repaired.

Alvin's health was not very good the last few years and he died 26 December 1943. Since Alvin's death Emma has spent most of the time taking care of her children and grandchildren. Whenever there has been sickness she has been there to help. Emma certainly lives and enjoys helping her family. No task was too hard for her in helping those who needed her help and means. The Crockett family is and always was a very close family, the problems of any member of the family has been the concern of all members of the entire family.

After Frederick Benjamin's wife died, Emma moved in to help keep house and raise his four children most of the family moved to Pocatello Idaho where they are busily engaged in community and business life.

Albert Jensen and Cora McCullough Jensen

Albert Jensen was the fifth child of John Henry Jensen and Ane Christine Jensen born 12 March 1887.

After Uncle Albert and Aunt Cora were married Albert built a house on the corner of grandfather’s farm across the street from George Kofoeds home. Aunt Cora's parents had died some time before leaving Cora and two sisters Velma and Grace to live with their Uncle Henry McCullough. Because of the loss of her parents and not too good of care from her uncle, Cora became discouraged and resentful of her uncle.

Albert and Cora lived north of Weston for a few years. While they were living there and during the First World War a telegram came to the Weston Depot. That agent called on the telephone and said that Uncle Ted who was in the Army had been wounded. Albert jumped in his model T Ford to go to the depot to get a telegram. While in route he lost one headlight and the spare tire but he did not have time to pick them up. Later Albert and Cora moved to Weston in a home they purchased one block north of the store in Weston.

Albert was a good carpenter and cement finisher he helped build the Fairview and Weston church house and worked on the cement finishing of the cement road between McCammon and Pocatello Idaho.

Uncle Albert used to be a very good baseball player and it was claimed by many who played with him that he could always hit the ball. Albert always worked hard and his greatest fault was that he worked and played too hard as he had a stroke while he was still a young man that left him in poor health for the rest of his life.

As long as Albert was able, he volunteered or helped dig almost every grave dug in the Western Cemetery without charge.

Cora died 28 August 1953.

Albert and Cora had three sons and a daughter;

            Henry Clyde Jensen born 18 September 1915

                        married Marguerite Jantokovich 17 June 1949

            Allen Hyrum Jensen born 23 April 1918, died 25 August 1962

                        married Bessie Avona Workman 1 September 1943 later divorced

            Ted James Jensen born 24 July 1923

                        married Francis Smith 22 January 1945

            daughter, stillborn

During the war Albert and Cora had all three of their boys in the armed services at the same time. Clyde was in the battle of the bulge and that invasion of Normandy. Allen was in the Coast Guard on the West Coast. Ted was in the Navy on the WASP battleship at the time it was destroyed.

After the war Allen went to work as a logger in the timber in Oregon. As a boy he liked to chop wood and tell tall tales of the many wild animals that he killed. After the war Clyde worked in Tooele Utah in the smelter and later went to work for himself building homes for resale. Ted was skilled in watch repair. Later he went to work in Seattle for Boeing aircraft Company.

Albert lived alone in his home in Weston. He took care of Allen during his sickness and prior to his death in 1962. In 1969 Albert went to Seattle to live with Ted and Francis where he has been ever since. On 12 March 1974 Albert will be 87 years old.

Albert passed away 16 March 1974 in Seattle Washington. His funeral was held 20 March 1974 in Weston Idaho. Burial in the Weston Cemetery, Weston Idaho.

Lawrence Soren Jensen and Nora Marietta Walker

Lawrence Soren Jensen and Nora Marietta Walker were married 1 July 1912.

Lawrence was the sixth child of John Henry Jensen and Ane Christine Jensen. He was born 25 April 1889. Lawrence left home at an early age to seek employment. He went to Riverdale Idaho where he worked on a large cattle ranch for Ben Meek Sr. Lawrence was well-liked by his employer. He could have been foreman at a young age while working at Riverdale.

Lawrence met Nora Walker. They were married in Driggs Idaho and later moved to Twin Falls Idaho (Jerome) where they were engaged in farming.

My first memory of Uncle Lawrence and Aunt Nora was in 1928 when Alf, John and families went to Twin Falls. We left Weston just as the sun was coming up in our model T Ford. We traveled all day stopping at the American Falls dam for lunch. We arrived at Lawrence’s place in Twin Falls just as the sun went down. The next day we traveled to King Hill to visit Aunt Celia and Uncle Frank Hall.

Aunt Nora had a great sense of humor. She seemed to delight in some prank or humor that she could do to someone. I have been told that Nora was a great horse rider. When she was young she could out ride any man. You were always welcome at that Nora and Uncle Lawrence's house. Their door was never locked and the best they had was always given to the many friends who came to visit.

Aunt Nora died 2 May 1962 and was buried 5 May 1962 in Sunset Memorial Park, Twin Falls Idaho.

Uncle Lawrence was a great reader of the Scriptures and especially history of his ancestors or of the early settlement of Cache Valley and Twin Falls Idaho. Uncle Lawrence was a large man weighing 252 to 275 pounds. He has enjoyed good health and has enjoyed having his many friends come to his home and visit him. Lawrence died 28 November 1972 and was buried         1 December 1972 in Sunset Memorial Park, Twin Falls Idaho.

When Lawrence and Nora moved to Twin Falls they were very close to pioneering that country. Lawrence seems to have a fascination for irrigation. He has spent much of his time working for irrigation companies, building canals, pumping stations, and as a water master.

In 1928 while visiting it Twin Falls, the Jerome – Twin Falls cemented bridge was dedicated and we witnessed a man jumping from the bridge with a parachute. Lawrence and Nora lived approximately 1 mile north of the Hansen swinging bridge across the Snake River. I believe that he helped build the bridge and also see it become obsolete and a new cemented bridge built.

Lawrence and Nora had five children;

            Glenn Jensen born 13 September 1913

                        married Gladys Morton

            Alice Lucille Jensen born 15 June 1915

                        married Earl Martin

                        second marriage Wilford bullock

            Joffre Edward Jenson born 4 May 1917

                        married Alta Boyd

            Donald Hiram Jensen

                        married Esther Morton, later divorced

                        second marriage Fern Cooper, who was first married to Ralph Herman Core.

            Lenora Christine Jensen born 15 December 1926

                        married Aubrey Cummins

If a summary of Lawrence and Nora's life or ask for, it could be;

Let me live in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man.

Hans Jensen and Mattie Howell Jensen

Hans was the seventh child of John Henry Jensen and Ane Christine Jensen. He was born 7 February 1891. Hans married Mattie Howell from McCammon Idaho on 1 July 1915 in the Logan Temple.

Not long after they were married they moved to a farm in Dayton Idaho, the home where Ervin Robins lives. It was in this home that their second daughter Blanche Gertrude died in March 1923. They later moved to a home east down the lane from their first home. They purchased the farm down by the Thornton beat dump.

Hans and Leo Jensen (not related) were neighbors and they worked and farmed together. One day while hauling hay from the farm to the barn, part of the hay fell off the hay rack. They reloaded the hay, a short distance up the road the hay fell off again, but this time Leo handed Hans a match and Hans set fire and they drove on to the barn.

Hans and Mattie have always been good folks to be around. They have always looked for the best in other people. They have had a good sense of humor and the ability to enjoy the best of what they had. I never remember of them showing anger or wishing that misfortune would come to anyone.

Hans purchased a dry farm north of Dayton Idaho that he and the boys operated. Although the last few years of his life he was in poor health the boys took over the farming. Even as boys they could be depended on to go to the dry farm and do the work of plowing, planting, and harvesting the crops

The last six months of Hans’s life was confined to a bed very sick. It was during this time that I witnessed the love of Hans's family. The entire family was always available to care for him and help relieve the pain. One could not but be impressed by the daily family prayers around the bed of Hans. When neighbors and friends were present they were asked to join in those prayers. They were designed to bring relief of pain from Hans.

The last few months of his life it was necessary to give him painkilling morphine. It became my lot to give those shots to Hans. One morning when I came out to help care for him, he refused to take any more of the shots. He said they were of the devil. In talking to him I could tell that he was seeing spiritual beings in the room. His eyes would follow some unseen person in the room. Hans asked me if I could see the devil. I told him that I could not see him. He then asked me to open the door and let him out. When I opened the door Hans waved some unseen person from the room.

Hans died at his home in June 1945. Since his death Mattie has continued to maintain her home in Dayton Ohio. Mattie spends much time visiting her family.

Hans and Mattie have the following eight children;

            June Howell Jensen born 13 June 1916

                        married Sherman Sant 23 September 1936

            Blanche Gertrude Jensen born to February 1918, died March 1923

            Martha Jensen born 12 December 1919

                        married Raymond Hollingsworth 28 October 1936 later divorced
